I spend a lot of time during the week in front of my computer screen (mostly editing), and the only thing that keeps me from going crazy is listening to a good audiobook or podcast!
I love listening to music in the mornings, but I really need a strong motivator to keep sitting in that chair for hours, and getting lost in a good story has been the just the thing!
These are some podcasts i’m really enjoying at the moment
1. Creative Mornings
“Creative Mornings is a breakfast lecture series for the creative community.” They’re a community of creatives that host talks once a month in 130 cities over the world over breakfast, and they’ve just started loading their favourites up as podcasts. So far I’ve really loved Jessica Hische (typographer), Ben Chestnut (CEO of Mailchimp) and Lulu Miller (of Invisibilia – another awesome podcast to listen to if you haven’t already).
2. Lena Dunham’s Women Of The Hour
Lena Dunham is an actress, author, screenwriter, producer, and director. You might know her from her series GIRLS. She can be shocking at times but mostly she’s just refreshing real, honest and hilarious. In Women Of the Hour she interviews a whole lot of women based on the theme of the episode. Some famous like Emma Stone and Jemima Kirk, and some less famous, but still incredibly interesting women. It’s a good mix of funny and serious, and i’ve really been enjoying the episodes so far. Listen to the ‘mini episode of Lena and Emma Stone discussing what names they’d like to be called by their co-workers’. I laughed out loud!
3. The RobCast
I love the RobCast because it’s just Rob Bell talking through life topics in such a real way. I loved “be where you are”, and his interview with Oprah.
4. No Such Thing As A Fish
This is one of mine and Dylan’s favourites! If you loved the show Q.I. – you’ll love this podcast of the Q.I. Elves discussing their favourite fact of the week. It’s very British, super funny, and you will probably learn a thing or two from each episode!
5. Planet Money
An excellently produced podcast that makes global money matters actually make sense. These episodes are short and sweet.
Bonus recommendations:
If you haven’t already listened to these here are a few more great podcasts to binge listen to:
- Serial (the podcast that got everyone back into podcasts)
- Invisibilia (understanding the unseen forces that shape human behaviour)
- Seth Godin’s startup school (a great one for freelancers and entrepreneurs)
- Freakonomics radio (If you’re a freakonomics fan – these are great!)
- Mystery Show (A girl who solves random mysteries in modern day life)
- Here’s the thing with Alec Baldwin (Alec Baldwin is such a cheesey radio host but he interviews some awesome people like Julie Andrews).
Enjoy and let me know if you have any other recommendations!
