In a sea of pub grub and burger joints in Cape Town, Giulio’s is finally bringing something new to the table.
When you set foot into this bright, white space you might almost feel as if you’ve been teleported into a cafe in Milan or Paris.
The elegant moulding in the walls, glints of gold and beautifully designed furniture has an almost palatial feel to it, but the comfy tan leather and exposed brick break the white perfectly and make this space feel homey and cosy.
I sat in a bright corner of the space, and over a flat white I had a quick chat to the sunny and sweet Giulio Loreggian about Giulio’s.
Coming from a huge Italian family, life has always been centred around food, and from a young age it was a dream of Giulio’s to open up a cafe! After a move to Cape Town from Joburg, a finance degree and chef school he headed off to London to work under none other but Jamie Oliver.
After soaking up all the inspiration he could he’s back in Cape Town offering up something new and inspired to our lovely city.
The food is fresh and distinctly Italian.
They have a daily ‘Mangia Table’ with a spread of delicious and interesting salads with optional protein, easy take away sandwiches and a lovely menu to sit down and enjoy. I had a mix of salads and pulled lamb, but next time I would love to try one of their pastas on the menu.
You can see the full menu here.
Now to gush over the decor!
Local designer, Michael Chandler, is responsible for the beautiful interiors of the cafe. He has managed to strike the perfect balance between luxury and homey, Italian and South African.
I love the olive leaf motif present throughout the cafe, in the logo, golden wreath and indoor plants, but I also love that ‘hidden’ the incredible wall moulding there are proteas!
Head down there for a nice breakfast, coffee or lazy lunch. They’re open Monday to Friday 8am – 4pm.
