I love winter in the Cape!
Everybody warned us when we moved down here that the winters are terrible, that it’s always wet and cold, and sometimes it just rains for weeks on end.
Maybe it’s been a good year (or maybe it’s just global warming) but I’ve really had a great winter here so far and the odd rainy days haven’t bothered me one bit. I’ll take wet over drrryyyyy any day!
I’ve especially loved exploring the winelands during winter. Everything is SO green, there are fireplaces for when it gets cold and the winter light is just perfect.
We’ve had a few little getaways in Stellenbosch this winter. It’s a lot quieter so a lot of the hotels have special rates until the end of September!
I’m going to be blogging a few of our winter wanderings over the next week or so. They’ll be a combination of style and travel posts. I hope you like them!
On this winter trip we cozied up at the beautiful Bonne Esperance studios. The rooms are cozy, modern and beautiful, and the B&B is located right in the middle of town.
I have a thing for pressed ceilings.
How beautiful is the bathroom?
After checking in we took a drive down the magnificent Helshoogte Pass down to Oldenberg Wine estate (it has the most incredible mountain views which light up so perfectly around sunset). We came on wrong day for wine tasting but we basked in the last of the winter sun before heading out to dinner.

We ended the day at Spier for an evening of wine blending and burgers. They always seem to be doing fun things here! Check their site for a list of events.
I made a very short video of the day. I always find moving pictures and music capture the vibe a little better!
