On Valentines Day this year Dylan and I attended an ice cream feast / workshop hosted by Marize (She is Visual) and Jacques (Ice cream community) in Stellenbosch.
We arrived at quite a huge complex of warehouses and made our way through until we saw a makeshift staircase leading into one of the massive warehouses. There inside we would eat, drink and be merry with a few other couples for Valentine’s day eve.
The tables were simple yet intricately designed and set for an ice cream feast!
Slowly guests started arriving, excited and not quite knowing what was going to happen next. We mingled around happy to see a few familiar faces and glad to meet some new ones!
Soon after all the guests had arrived we were given an introduction to the night and a bit of the story behind the event by Jacques & Marize. After that the feast began!
It may sound strange having a 4 course ice cream dinner, but the concepts for each course made it feel like eating a feast. We started with an ice cream salad (ricotta ice cream with watermelon, micro herbs and sea salt), followed by a fun sorbet which we had to guess the flavour (it was pineapple!). Main course was a Green curry and coconut ice cream with a ball of rice and cashew butter. To add to the flurry of flavours we ended off with a lemon sorbet.
Delicious!
After our feast we were treated to a live workshop on how to make really (naturally) good vanilla ice cream. Oh. My. Goodness. So good fresh from the churner!
All in and all it was a very special evening, and I have to admit it was actually really nice sharing valentine’s day with other people! Next year I think we might just that again.
She is Visual is hosting another two events in the next week in Stellenbosch.
Buy your tickets on her site here and also keep an eye out for new events announcements.
