I am quite a huge fan of The Space.
Walking into the store, smelling those vanilla candles and perusing through pretty things is a favourite pastime of mine. It’s always been such a lovely place to buy gifts for friends or a place to find a locally made dress that nobody else will have!
After 14 years of being open (crazy!), Space Man has landed!
“Blokes are not just blokes anymore. There are complete sub-cultures of South African men exploring how good it feels to dress to suit their identity. Their tastes may be international and fully branded – but they also love local: Holmes Brothers, Urban Zulu, & AfrikanSwiss and they are putting their Randelas back into the SA economy, for no other reason than that local design is on a par with the best globally, yet also inherently rich in South Africanisms.
At Space Man, look forward to new collections from both bright young things like Shoelaced Clothing, Non-European, Urban Zulu & Adriaan Kuiters and stalwarts including Amanda Laird Cherry, Leigh Schubert and the Holmes Brothers. There will be freshness from Space Man’s own brand Nevermind and the stuff we love to love from Sergeant Pepper, AfrikanSwiss and catwalk supremo Ephymol.”
The shop is filled to the brim with awesome gifts for your guy from threads to books and even beautifully branded grooming products.
While in town we stayed at The Concierge Hotel (We stayed here a few years ago. Go here to read all about it). It is without a doubt the coolest place to stay in Durbs!
It’s also on the same property as The Freedom Cafe (which is also worth the visit!).
It was also a pleasure meeting Neil Roake who is the brain behind The Space, Space Man, Freedom Cafe, The Concierge and countless cookbooks!
He is a restless, creative genius and just a few minutes chatting to him will inspire you to do more.
If you’re in Durbs you gotta go check it out:
You’ll find Space Man at Gateway Shopping centre (right next door to The Space) by the Theatres.
Follow them on insta here and facebook here for updates! (Hopefully it lands in a few more cities soon!)
