Emmajanenation Bathroom Makeover_0025

I’ve been waiting so long to do this post!

This massive project began in January this year where we first sat down and decided we were going to renovate our bathrooms. Fast forward a million decisions (you can see my inspiration post here) and a few months later we finally broke ground (literally) at the end of September.

Renovations are a nightmare to say the least but i’m really really happy with the results! I feel like I have a pinterest worthy bathroom which I never thought i’d ever have.

Without further adieu here is my bathroom makeover:

The En-suite bathroom

The main major changes we did here was swapping out the bath for a shower, changing the window and re tiling every surface!

The tiles have been a big part of this process. I have become obsessed with subway tiles and more recently the black honeycomb tiles we used on the floor (both are Douglas Jones, found at Tile Africa).

The bath/shower swap.

Another view of the bath/shower swap. How strange is it having a huge mirror opposite the loo? I hated it!

Another huge upgrade were the taps! Gross knobs to super sexy Hansgrohe taps.

We chose the slightly more classic style to fit with the house but they’re still really simple and stylish. (I really wanted to go for gold taps but Dylan wasn’t as amped!).

The shower

Originally we wanted a rectangular shower that was completely flush with the floor but due to drainage/possible leaking problems we had to change this plan to a semi circle shower (which saves space in the end) with a ridge.

My favourite parts of the shower is the space (It’s so much bigger than our old shower), and the rain shower head! It’s such an awesome feeling stepping into that water every morning.

The shower head and mixer are both from Hansgrohe and are also incredibly simple and sexy.

The floor tiles! (Insert emoticon with hearts for eyes).

As stated before they’re Douglas Jones mosaics and you can get them at Tile Africa.

The guest bathroom

This bathroom doesn’t seem as bad before because we painted those super ugly tiles grey to cover them up! First prize is always to retile though… there’s only so much that paint can really disguise.

We swapped the old, tiny shower for a small but lovely bath and changed the layout so you don’t see the loo as you walk in (much better don’t you think?).

We also changed the window to something a bit newer and cleaner. My original vision was to have a round porthole window but in the end it didn’t really make sense with the rectangular subway tiles (maybe in the next project?).

  • and finally to Dylan for sitting with me for ages, planning, measuring, sketching up, researching windows/baths/showers/tiles, always running out to builders warehouse and for putting up with brunt of the dust and building. I love you!
